 Translation:

 78. Surah An-Naba’ (The Great News)

1. What are they asking (one another)?

2. About the great news, (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism, the Qur’ân, which Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) (SAW) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.),

3. About which they are in disagreement.

4. Nay, they will come to know!

5. Nay, again, they will come to know!

6. Have We not made the earth as a bed,

7. And the mountains as pegs?

8. And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.).

9. And have made your sleep as a thing for rest.

10. And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness),

11. And have made the day for livelihood.

12. And We have built above you seven strong (heavens),

13. And have made (therein) a shining lamp (sun).

14. And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water.

15. That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations,

16. And gardens of thick growth.

17. Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time,

18. The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups);

19. And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates,

20. And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage.

21. Truly, Hell is a place of ambush,

22. A dwelling place for the Tâghûn (those who transgress the boundry limits set by Allâh like polytheists, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh, hyprocrites, sinners, criminals, etc.),

23. They will abide therein for ages,

24. Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink.

25. Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges.

26. An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes).

27. For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning.

28. But they belied Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, and that which Our Prophet (Peace be upon him) brought) completely.

29. And all things We have recorded in a Book.

30. So taste you (the results of your evil actions); no increase shall We give you, except in torment.

31. Verily, for the Muttaqûn, there will be a success (Paradise);

32. Gardens and grapeyards;

33. And young full-breasted (mature) maidens of equal age;

34. And a full cup (of wine).

35. No Laghw (dirty, false, evil talk) shall they hear therein, nor lying;

36. A reward from your Lord, an ample calculated gift (according to the best of their good deeds).

37. (From) the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and whatsoever is in between them, the Most Beneficent, none can dare to speak with Him (on the Day of Resurrection except after His Leave).

38. The Day that Ar-Rûh [Jibrael (Gabriel) or another angel] and the angels will stand forth in rows, none shall speak except him whom the Most Beneficent (Allâh) allows, and he will speak what is right.

39. That is without doubt the True Day, so, whosoever wills, let him seek a place with (or a way to) His Lord (by obeying Him in this worldly life)!

40. Verily, We have warned you of a near torment, the Day when man will see that (the deeds) which his hands have sent forth, and the disbeliever will say: “Woe to me! Would that I were dust!”

Our attitude concerning mockery of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)

23 02 2008

Our Attitude Concerning Mocking of the Prophet, SAW

Fatwa from Islamqa

Sheikh Salih al Munajjid

Question:

We have heard about the Westerners making fun of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and mocking him. What should our attitude be towards that? How should we defend the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

Firstly:

We and every Muslim who feels pride in his religion is grieved by what these fools and criminals have done by mocking our Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) who is the best man who ever walked on this earth, and he is the leader of the earlier and later generations, may the blessings and peace of my Lord be upon him.

This insolence is nothing strange on their part, rather it is to be expected of them.

Moreover this crime – although it breaks our hearts and fills them with anger, and we are prepared to sacrifice our lives in defence of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) – is nevertheless something which brings us glad tidings of their doom, and tells us that the end of their supremacy is at hand. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Truly, We will suffice you against the scoffers”

[al-Hijr 15:95]

Allaah will suffice His Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) against the criminals who mock him. He says (interpretation of the meaning):

“For he who hates you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), he will be cut off (from posterity and every good thing in this world and in the Hereafter)”

[al-Kawthar 108:3]

i.e., he is scorned and humiliated and cut off from all that is good.

When the Muslims besieged a stronghold and its people resisted, then they heard them mocking and reviling the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), they would sense that victory was at hand, and it would only be a short time before Allaah granted them victory, to avenge His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).

Al-Saarim al-Maslool (p. 116-117).

There are many historical cases where those who mocked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) were destroyed and finished off.

Moreover, why do they resent the leader of mankind, Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)?

They resent him because he called people to believe in the Oneness of God (Tawheed), and they do not believe that God is One.

They resent him because he venerated his Lord, may He be blessed and exalted, and declared Him to be far above what these fabricators say, as they attributed a wife and son to Him.

They resent him because he called people to the loftiest of morals and to give up the lowest. He called them to virtue and to block all the means that lead to immorality, but they want moral disorder and unlimited sexual liberty.

They want to indulge in the swamp of evil whims and desires, and they have got what they want!

They resent him because he is the Messenger of Allaah! Allaah, may He be exalted, is the One Who chose him above all mankind to convey His message and receive His revelation.

The Sincere

17 02 2008

The Sincere

Praise be to Allah (SWT) who revealed to His servant the Book and placed therein no crookedness. He has made it straight in order that He may warn of a terrible punishment from Him and that He may give glad tidings to the believers who work righteous deeds that they shall have a great reward wherein they shall abide forever.

The Muslim ummah is eager and desires to acquire true knowledge; it desires to quench its thirst in the fountain of the Quran and Sunnah. The ummah passionately longs to bring its state back to the genuine foundation of true Islamic teachings. It is a quest that every student of knowledge has taken, it is a journey that every lover of deen wishes to endure, it is the sweetness of the fruits of knowledge that the seekers of truth wishes to taste. It is this knowledge, which every educated Muslim feels is the medicine, and remedy for the state of the ummah.

The answer to all the problems of this ummah is knowledge, as this is the answer given by the scholars of haqq. But, there is an aspect of knowledge that the majority of the seekers have abandoned, forgotten, and neglected. It is the most important portion of knowledge, for the one who memorizes the Quran and masters all the sciences of Islam but neglects this facet is surely destroyed. So what is this phase of knowledge that can destroy a man, even if the verses of The Quran flow from his tongue? It is the heart.

There are three types of student of knowledge; there is the one who seeks knowledge not to acquire the provisions of this world, rather the fruits Akira and the life to come, then it is he who will rejoice. It is he who will receive guidance from Allaah the most High to a Mansion of eternal life, such a seeker of truth is indeed successful, in his heart lies nothing but to seek the pleasure of his Lord.

Then there is the one who seeks knowledge for worldly gains, for power, wealth, and prestige. But at the same time his soul is content to the truth, his heart realizes his folly, and longs to attain the truth, knowing the wickedness of his aims. Such a man is in need of repentance, tauba, for if death approaches him in such a state, a state of confusion, a bad end is expected, for his fate depends only in the Mercy of Allaah. But if he repents before his appointed term, and acts upon that becoming the seeker of truth in the first category, quenching the thirst in his heart with the fountain of truth, such a man is saved and will rejoice in the couches of jannat.

And finally there is the man, who seeks knowledge for nothing more then to feed his desires. To achieve something for himself, to outshine his fellow friends, and to attract attention. Knowledge is only a means to pride himself, boast about himself, and to gain the wealth of this world. Such a man believes he has a lofty position in the eyes of Allaah, for he bears the stamp of scholarship, he maybe the grand mufti or alim of such docile followings. Such a man has destroyed himself, for he has sold an eternal reward for this temporary one. He is overcome by shaytan and his own stupidity that he will never realize the importance of his repentance, and leave such manners. They are the students and scholars of knowledge, who tell others what to do, but when it comes to them, it is as if the sayings from their own tongues do not apply to them. As Allaah The Most High says:

O you who believe! Why do you say that which you do not do? Suraah As-Saff: 2

And as the Prophet (SAWS) said: “I fear on your account one who is not Dajjal, more than Dajjal, and when someone said to him (SAWS), “Who is that?” he replied, “An evil scholar.” It is Dajjal who will lead men astray, and it is the responsibility of the scholars to guide and direct the people to the truth. However it is this student of knowledge, this dawie, this scholar, who calls men to the truth, but his actions calls them to the falsehood, for a man’s actions is clearer, expressive, and more persuasive then his words. It is this man who is consumed by the love of this dunya, why because his heart was never inclined towards the pleasure of His Lord, it never submitted through Ikhlas, and sincerity to Allaah. Such a mans knowledge is of no use for this ummah, for his ignorant heart and soul remains convinced that he is treading the right path, a path which does not lead to salvation. Such a heart is surely destroyed.

Only Purpose In Life

ONLY Purpose in Life

My only purpose in life is to praise Allah (SWT) the Almighty,
For He has created me so perfectly,
Created me to worship only Him,
And submit my self, my every limb.
To the One only worthy of worship and praise,
I submit myself completely and do as my Lord says.
My Lord Ar-Raheem, the most Merciful of all,
I want to invite others to Islam, others I wish to call.
To come follow the way of peace and fulfil their only purpose,
And enlighten their hearts with iman from the core to the very surface.
Dedicate themselves to Al-Khalik, their creator,
The sustainer than whom there is none greater.
My only purpose in life is to glorify Allah (SWT),
Glorify him for his beautiful creation subhan Allah (SWT).
Everyday I remember to thank my Lord sincerely,
And keep Him in my heart, keep Him near me.
This is our purpose in life to constantly do dhikr,
And keep firm in our faith and always have sabr.
Let us never forget our purpose and be immersed in this world,
For this there is a great punishment, we have been warned, we have been told.
Let’s not be ignorant to the truth that has been revealed,
And instead uttter His beautiful words so that our hearts can be healed.
Let’s always remember our creator Ar Rahman,
And implement the words of the glorious Qur’an.
For our only purpose in life is to praise the One and Only
Our creator, our Master, He is the only One worthy!

An Inevitable Irony

An Invetiable Irony

By: Saiful Islam

Taken from:  Al-Mizaan - Issue 4

It was a stone-cold setting, the graveyard, true to the image one conjures when one thinks of death, that inevitability which will dawn on every human being.  Rain trickled down lightly, assisting the mushiness in the already soft soil.

Walking through towards the burial site, I glanced over the graves, thinking of all those men and women who lived as though they would never die and eventually died as though the they had never lived.  How their arched backs which would walk on this earth with pride had been broken in a single stroke which resulted in them being subsumed by mud, stone and water six feet under.  How those legs which would walk towards wine, women and worldly work, were now being shattered to pieces by those two angels carrying gargantuan chains.

All these thoughts immersed my mind until that is, when I stood over the eight by 4 metre whole dug for a brother whose time had, on time, run out.  His face was seen before he was lowered, that jolly and joyful head which once laughed had become a stone-cold lifeless mass.  The body was lowered, with each person reciting the Shahadah, some reciting Surah Ikhlas and others simply stood there, glazed.  Each person came and helped throw the soil over the coffin.  Again my conflicting contemplations were making me cry inside.  This will be my state, I will be seeing my Lord! But I will first face Munkir and Nakir.  My deeds will be weighed, will it be the beautiful damsels of Jannah which will be shown to me or the burning pits of Jahannam?

With these thoughts blazing across my head, my brother nudged me and handed to me the spade.  I considered myself very strong not very long ago, but those same swollen arms were trembling and suddenly felt heavy.  And why wouldn’t they?  I was helping to bury a man who would face those unseen things which are beyond any human power and of course controlled by that Power, which is All-Powerful. After assisting the burial process, I was told to hand over the spade to the person next in line.  I walked back a few feet away from the would-be grave.  I could not lift my head.  My beard was soaking in my tears, which were not shed out of sadness for the decesased, but rather  because of the mud which was being trampled upon.  The Almighty had created us from this very mud, fashioned us into intelligent beings to obey Him and seek His pleasure, and it was now this very mud which was being trampled upon in order to place clay, beneath clay.  The irony of life.  But why the sadness?

We prepare ourselves for the future, the worldly we preserved

Forgetting the meeting with the One, His Laws we unobserved…

Beautiful Names of Allah (SWT)

My heart speaks; it speaks the words of my Lord
The words of Ar-Rahman, Ar-Rahim
These words in my heart I have stored
The words of Al Malik Al-’Alim
In the early morning and dead of night
The words of Al-Quddus Al-Mu’min
I ever so lovingly recite

These words they hold such power
The words of As-Salam Al-Halim
I want to shout them out from the highest tower
The words of Al-’Aziz Al-Karim
A reward for each letter recited of His
The letters of Al-Khaliq Al-’Azim
Tears flow down my cheek as I think of this

Al-’Ali Al-Wahid
Al-Kabir Ar-Rashid
A tremor in my heart at the mention of His name
The One whose love I attempt to gain
To the One that belong the most beautiful names
The names that in my heart will always remain

Inna Lillahi wa inna ‘ilayhi raji’oon.

Asalaamu Alaaikum wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatu

Inna Lillahi wa inna ‘ilayhi raji’oon. Indeed, From Allah (SWT) we come, and it is to Him we shall return.

We are saddened to write that two Scholars have passed away, in only the timespan of one week. SubhanAllah.

‘Abd-Allâh ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘Aas said: “I heard the Messenger of Allâh (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) say, ‘Allâh does not take knowledge away by taking it away from people’s (hearts); He takes knowledge away by taking away the scholars (i.e., when scholars die), and when there is not one scholar left, the people will turn to ignorant leaders who, when they are consulted, will give fatwas without knowledge. They are misguided and they misguide others.’” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 98).

Shaykh Bakr Abu Zayd passed away on Tuesday in Riyadh

Mihbarah All the Way to the Maqbarah

7 02 2008

“I will be with the mihbarah (inkwell) all the way to the maqbarah (graveyard).”

In the Name of Allah (SWT), the Most Merciful, the All-Merciful, may His salâh and salâm be upon His Final Messenger.

Imâm Ahmad had two sons, ‘Abdullâh and Sâlih, whom were half-brothers. Sâlih relates that “A man saw my father carrying a mihbarah (a wooden inkwell that students used to carry along with their pens) and said, ‘O Abâ ‘Abdillâh! You are the Imâm of the Muslims!’

”This man spoke like this since he was surprised to see Imâm Ahmad carrying his mihbarah as the young students would carry it, or indeed that he would still read books, or shoulder the same responsibilities that the youth did. Note also how all the people were fascinated by him (by Imâm Ahmad), even the elders of the people!

Imâm Ahmad replied with a statement that nullified this man’s whole understanding. He said:

“I will be with the mihbarah all the way to the maqbarah (graveyard).”What did he mean?

He meant, “I will be busy with knowledge until I die.” Another narration mentions that he said this same statement on a separate occasion to another group of people:“As for me, I will seek knowledge until I am placed in the grave.”When the time of his death came near, he said to those around him:“Relate to me the statement of Hushaym.” (Hushaym was Hushaym ibn Bashîr, Imâm Ahmad’s first teacher. He met him in the year 179AH, when he began seeking knowledge at the age of 16) So they read to him what he had requested. This narrated tradition mentioned that Ibn Sîrîn used to dislike a person groaning from pain. At that time, Imâm Ahmad had became very ill and he used to groan due to the pain yet when they informed him that Ibn Sîrîn used to dislike groaning at such a time, he did not groan again until he died. This is the reality of his statement, “I will seek knowledge until I am placed in the grave,” meaning, “I must continue benefiting from knowledge.”
So if you have left your youth behind and become a teacher or an educator, or a lecturer or professor in the university, or an author, and you say, “I have finished seeking knowledge,” know that this is the situation of someone who does not know the reality of his affairs.Al-’Ilm is knowledge of what?
It is knowledge of the Speech of Allah (SWT) and the speech of His Messenger, peace be upon him.

Has anyone reached a level of awareness of the meanings of the Speech of Allah (SWT) and His Messenger, peace be upon him, and also the statements of the scholars explaining the Book and the sunnah, a level of awareness that is sufficient? No one has reached that level. No one who has the right intention and a proper heart has reached that level. Regarding this, Imâm Ahmad said, “With the mihbarah all the way to the maqbarah.” He was addressing everyone, advising us to continue seeking knowledge and not to give it up for any petty reason. In the study circles of our mosques we have seen a great number of students who are eager to learn for two months, and then they abandon it.

Three months or so only. What is this?! Some of them seek knowledge for 3, 4, 5, or 7 years and then they abandon it.Why is that? Is it because the lure of the world has come to you, so you are finished and now you head off into the world? Is it because a position was offered to you and you took it?  Is it because you have reached a certain status, you have become a school director or professor in the university? For this you reason you have stopped seeking knowledge? No! You must continue seeking knowledge until you die. This is what will correct the society’s problems, if their scholars take this advice. As for the students of knowledge, then they must hold fast to this advice, “With the mihbarah all the way to the maqbarah.”He must stay with his book until he dies - reading, learning, memorizing, reviewing, teaching, until his end.

What are the people saying these days? “The rulings related to prayer, we know them, no problem.” If you asked them about many of the rulings, you will find that they do not know them. Why is that? It is because they have become satisfied with the knowledge they have, even delighted that they have the knowledge they have. We ask Allah (SWT) that He excuses us and that He is pleased with us.If you asked them about affairs even greater than the prayer, issues of creed, issues of tawhîd, you will find that they have not fully grasped the issues, and they used to be students of knowledge! Why is that? Because they were negligent, and thus abandoned it.

Knowledge is honor, if you abandon it, it will abandon you. If you take the task seriously, you will be given some of it, from what Allah (SWT) has decreed for you.
