Jumuah Mubarak!!
4 01 2008Asalaamu Alaaikum,

The IlmCentral Team would just like to wish you all a Jumuah Mubarak (Blessed Friday!). Insha’Allah
you can attend your local Masjid’s Khutba (Sermon) and can pray with all the Muslims in the Jumuah Prayer. Each Friday, insha’Allah
we wish to share one of our Khutba. And we hope others can too share what they learned as well :)
To read “Sis Shaykha’s” Khutba please go here: Khutba:Shaykha
Here are some ahadith & Reminders for the blessed day of Jumuah:
1) Read Surat Al-Kahf (The Cave), chapter 18
2)Pray on (make dua for) the Prophet (pbuh) many times
3)Attend the sermon quietly — no speaking.
4)Make du’aa between the two khutbas
5)Make du’aa for your Muslim brothers and sisters all over the world.
Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri:
Allah
’s Apostle (pbuh) said, “The taking of a bath on Friday is compulsory for every male (Muslim) who has attained the age of puberty.”
Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah
’s Apostle (p.b.u.h) said, “When the Imam is delivering the Khutba, and you ask your companion to keep quiet and listen, then no doubt you have done an evil act.”
Jabir b. ‘Abdullah reported that: while Allah
’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) was delivering the sermon on Friday a person came there, and the Apostle of Allah
(may peace be upon him) said to him: So and so, have you prayed (two rak’ahs)? He said: No. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Then stand and pray.
Abu Burda b. Abu Musa al-Ash’ari reported: ‘Abdullah b. Umar said to me: Did you hear anything from your father narrating something from the messenger of Allah
(may peace be upon him) about the time on Friday? I said: Yes, I heard him say from the Messenger of Allah
(may peace be upon him) (these words):” It is between the time when the Imam sits down and the end of the prayer.”
-The above hadith are all narrated from Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim-

As’salaamu `Alaikum,
Jummah Mubarak to all of my muslim brothers and sisters out there!!
Wa’alaykum Asalaam
Insha’Allah
I’ll share mine. Today’s Khutba was directed mainly towards the parents. How should we raise our children? The answer is with Islam, and Islamic means and methods. The first thing the Sheikh mentioned was to NAME your child with a beautiful Islamic name. The Prophet, SAW encouraged us in hadith to name children after the Prophets, or to give them beautiful Islamic names. He, SAW, also said the two names Allah
SWT loves most are Abdullah and AburRahman. The Prophet SAW changed many people’s names who converted to Islam beacuse their names were not proper, or Islamic. The Sheikh regrettfully noted that today it’s the other way around, that Muslims are changing their beautiful Islamic names, or shortening them to imitate other’s names (i.e. the disbelievers). He said that in a hadith that the Prophet, SAW said on the day of judgement you will be called by your name and your father’s name (another hadith says mother’s names), so therefore the Prophet SAW advised us to choose good names for our children (and in some cases ourselves, i..e changing it).
I can keep this in mind for later on, if Allah
SWT blesses me with children of my own.
The Sheikh then went on to mention four characteristics/traits that we should make our children adopt. The first three were 1)love other Muslims, and want for them what you want for yourself 2)control anger 3) always be honest, truthful and frank. The fourth escapes my mind at the moment. Basically he stressed the importance of raising our children (for those who have children) and also ourselves, on Islam and through Islamic means. He said that we will be responsible for those under our care (i.e. children) on the day of judgement and will be asked about them, and what we did for them islamically.
I thought the talk was very benecificial and insha’Allah
